Straight Flush: A five-card straight all in the same suit. If two players have straight flushes, the higher numbered hand wins (2-3-4-5-6 loses to 3-4-5-6-7, for example)… If two or more players have a full house, it is the three of a kind that determines the winner, not the kicker (the pair).

As usual the pair with the higher value is used to determine the winner of a tie. Pair: One pair of two equal value cards constitutes a pair. High Card: If no one has any of the above winning hands, the tie is determined by the highest value card in the hand.

There is no condition in a five card hand where you can win the pot based on your sixth or seventh card. There are no tie breakers unless your best five cards are better than your opponents best five cards. When both players have one pair or two pair that tie, kickers determine the best five cards.

Most people assume a "good" poker player is a "winning" poker player and vice versa. I don't think this is right, but differentiating between them is a bit tricky - maybe more than you think. A "winning" player is one who, over enough time and a sufficient number of hands for the data to be statistically reliable, takes more money off the table than he puts on it.

The ultimate phase of mathematical figuring in poker is the number of hands you will win and how much you will win on them, and the number of hands you will lose and how much you will lose on them. It is not enough to know that when you draw three cards to a low pair the odds are eight to one against making three of a kind.
