The Joker can be an extremely beneficial, or an extremely harmful, card. In Euchre it is often used to represent the highest trump. In poker, it is wild. However, in the children's game named Old Maid, a solitary joker represents the Maid, a card that is to be avoided.

Often, the Joker is a wild card, and thereby allowed to represent other existing cards. The term "Joker's wild" originates from this practice. The Joker can be an extremely beneficial, or an extremely harmful, card. In Euchre it is often used to represent the highest trump. In poker, it is wild.

The joker card is found in most modern-day card decks in addition to the 52 normal cards. The joker card is its own ‘suit,’ and not associated with any of the four suits being clubs, diamonds, hearts, and spades. The joker card can be either extremely powerful or extremely detrimental.

Joker: a wild card, or slang for a really lucky card that came to complete a hand against odds. Kicker: unmatched card in a player’s hand that is not used except to break ties. Jokers as Bugs . Wild cards are almost exclusively used in home games. The exception is when the joker is used as a bug. If a wild card or joker is referred to as a bug, the wild card cannot stand for any card you choose. Instead, it is considered an ace unless you can use it to complete a flush or straight. For instance, if you have 3-4-5-6-Joker, you can use the joker as a 7 to make a straight, but if you have 3-3-4-5-Joker, you have 3-3-4-5-Ace.

The Joker is the playing card representative of the tarot Fool. Keeping it simple, the Fool is numberless; he is the unformed consciousness that journeys through the tarot, undergoing transformation, self-understanding, challenges, and generally educating himself via those experiences.

If you place your cards on the discard pile or slide your cards toward the dealer, your hand is said to be mucked and is dead for the rest of the current hand. Your hand can also be mucked automatically if your time bank runs out in online poker or someone calls the clock on you and you run out of time in live poker.
