Why is there a joker in a deck of cards?
A Standard 52-card deck is either printed on a 8x7 sheet or 11x5 sheet, providing 56 or 55 card spaces. This provides space for two jokers, which get used in a variety of games. A 56 card sheet may provide four jokers, three jokers and an one instruction/marketing card, or two jokers and two instruction/marketing cards.

Yes, the two joker cards included in a traditional 52-card deck can actually be used in some games. Joker cards are used in euchre, poker, Indian rummy, canasta, war, and crazy eights, to name a few. Are jokers part of the 52 cards?

There are only 2 Jokers in a deck of cards because the Joker card came from the original game called Euchre played in the 1800’s. Originally, there was a need for a trump card, which was introduced as the Joker. Players then create a rule with a second higher trump card, called the Best Bower, which became known as the Joker.

In a deck of cards with the Jokers there are 54 cards. This is because there are 52 of the regular playing cards, plus two Joker cards. See How Many Cards are in a Deck with Jokers? What Comes After 10 in a Deck of Cards?

Image Via: Pexels.com In a standard deck of cards, there is usually a pair of jokers. Because the joker card is such a versatile and widely misunderstood card, they sometimes represent informal replacements for lost or damaged cards in the 52-card playing deck. This is accomplished by simply noting the lost cards rank and suit on the joker card.

There are usually two Jokers per deck, often noticeably different. For instance, the United States Playing Card Company (USPCC) prints their company's guarantee claim on only one. At times, the Jokers will each be colored to match the colors used for suits; e.g., there will be a red Joker and a black

In a standard deck, there are usually two Jokers. The Joker’s use varies greatly. Many card games omit the card entirely; as a result, Jokers are often used as informal replacements for lost or damaged cards in a deck by simply noting the lost card’s rank and suit on the Joker. Two cards, known as hole cards, are dealt face down to each player, and then five community cards are dealt face up in three stages. The stages consist of a series of three cards ("the flop"), later an additional single card ("the turn" or "fourth street"), and a final card ("the river" or "fifth street").

Playing cards come in two sizes - poker size and bridge size. Poker size is 63.5mm X 88.9mm. Bridge size is narrower at 56mm x 88.9mm. This makes more sense in old fashioned imperial measurements - both are 3.5 inches high, but poker cards are 2.5 inches wide while bridge cards are 2.25 inches wide.
